If you are an avid Braves fan hoping to enjoy a few drinks while tailgating before a game, you're in luck. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved an open container tailgating district just in time for the opening of the new Braves Stadium at SunTrust Park and the neighboring developments located at 755 Battery Avenue Southeast, Atlanta, GA.
This new law allows approved licensed vendors outside the stadium and in surrounding developments to legally sell alcohol, including draft beers to of-age consumers in designated areas. You can also “BYOB” in the designated spots. Normal underage drinking and DUI laws remain intact and will continue to be enforced.
Limitations to the Open Container Laws
Although the new open container law legally allows consumption and purchase of alcohol around SunTrust Park, certain restrictions will be enforced. Here's what you need to know:
- You must still be 21+ with a valid photo ID to buy/consume alcohol
- No open containers entering nor exiting the zone
- No open containers in parking decks
- 2 drink maximum per person
- No glass containers
- No containers greater than 24 fluid ounces
- You may tailgate only in designated spots
- Drink responsibly
How are These Laws Different from Turner Field?
This new set of laws at the new Braves stadium at Sun Trust park differs from previous Braves stadium, Turner Field, in regards to now allowing open containers while tailgating in designated areas, which previously, was prohibited under law. Bringing alcoholic beverages into the new Braves stadium continues to remain prohibited.
